Chapter 4

I think what Savater tries to convey in this chapter has to do with our ¨freedom¨and our ¨responsibility as regards freedom.¨ What I am able to reflect upon this , is learning to live the best we can, taking our time to take decisions and building self'-confidence so as to feel satisfied with the things we choose and with what we decide to do with our lives. As Savater explains, this does not mean ¨doing the first thing that comes to our minds¨but thinking very well before deciding on the different options we come across.
On the other hand, he mentions culture and language as part of this difficult process of ¨having a good life¨. I think it is a process because not everyone learns at the same time and we all need to go through different experiences so as to learn some lessons as human beings.

Well said, Silvia! :-D

Going further: have you asked yourself how your time at college maybe contributing to your development as an educator in the sense you discuss in this entry?

It'd be great to hear your thoughts on this!

Fondly,

Gladys

I believe I can cooperate passing on values or making a apoint in the things I believe are right through classroom activities or making a comment when a situation requires it.

I see your point and fully support you, Silvia!

However, I feel I haven't made myself clear. I meant to ask you if you feel your studies at college are helping you develop as an educator, contributing to your seeing options available to you as an EFL teacher, and providing you with experiences that help you make "wiser choices" as a teacher...

Have I made myself understood this time? I'll be wondering! ;-)

Love,

Gladys

Yes, I do think my studies have always helped me to develop as an educator first and facilitator of the language in the second place. I´ve always felt I´ve grown through experiences at college with my teachers and by being in contact with my students as well. Is that what you refer to?

Thaks for answering my question, Silvia! To me, this is possibly the most important factor to decide whether an institutional is actually educational, you know?
Love,
Gladys
